Uganda Cranes Ready to End 37-Year AFCON Drought Against Togo
With just hours to go before their pivotal 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, Uganda’s national team, the Cranes, are brimming with confidence ahead of their showdown against Togo. The match, scheduled for 4 p.m. local time (1 p.m. GMT) at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole, could be a turning point in the Cranes’ quest to return to the continental stage after a 37-year absence.
Coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic spoke passionately about the team’s preparations and the importance of the moment:
“We are here for moments like this. This match will be a key encounter and we believe we will make a good showing.”
Uganda comes into the match with momentum, while Togo, led by star striker Emmanuel Adebayor, is under immense pressure after suffering defeats in their first two group matches.
Coach Micho added:
“We know it will be difficult, because Togo is full of professional players who play for European clubs, and we respect them. I won’t make any promises, but I have confidence in this group.”
With strong fan support expected and 25 committed players in camp, the Cranes aim to capitalize on home advantage and edge closer to qualification. Uganda’s last appearance in the AFCON finals dates back to 1978, where they reached the final.
This clash marks a defining moment for Ugandan football — one filled with hope, belief, and the dream of continental return.
