Emmanuel Adebayor Joins Togo Squad in Uganda Ahead of Crucial AFCON Qualifier
The Togo Hawks landed in Uganda this Friday in preparation for their third-round AFCON 2015 qualifier against the Uganda Cranes, scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m. local time (1 p.m. GMT) at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.
The squad, led by coach Tchanilé Tchakala, is now complete following the arrival of star striker Emmanuel Adebayor, who chose to travel separately from his teammates. The Tottenham forward made his way to Kampala via Nairobi, arriving the night before.
A photo posted by Kawowo Sports shows Adebayor at Entebbe International Airport, trying to remain low-profile under a reggae-style helmet, but his presence didn’t go unnoticed. Despite traveling discreetly and being flanked by bodyguards, fans still managed to catch a glimpse of the Togolese icon.
Before the decisive clash, Adebayor and the rest of the Togo squad are scheduled to hold a training session at the match venue this evening to familiarize themselves with the pitch.
Togo, currently struggling in the qualifiers, must secure a result against Uganda to stay in the race for a spot at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. All eyes will be on Adebayor to lead the charge and inspire his side to a much-needed turnaround
