Mauritania Weakened by Key Absences Ahead of Uganda Clash
Mauritania will be without several key players when they face Uganda in Kampala on July 18 in the second round of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
French head coach Patrice Neveu has been forced to revise his plans following multiple withdrawals from his Mourabitounes squad.
Midfielder Guidilèye Diallo, who plays for French side Limoges (formerly of Stade Brestois), has not been released by his club, ruling him out of contention. Compounding Neveu’s selection woes is the injury to Mamadou Wade, who suffered a knock during a friendly against Senegalese club Diambars in Mbour.
Captain Oumar Ndiaye will also miss the encounter after being suspended by CAF. The defender was sanctioned for verbally abusing the referee during Mauritania’s match against Equatorial Guinea in Malabo. In addition to the suspension, CAF fined the Mauritanian Football Federation (FFRIM) $3,000.
These absences have reduced Neveu’s options for a crucial fixture in Kampala, where Mauritania will aim to take a step closer to reaching the continental finals.
