CAN 2015: Senegalese Player Receives 4 Million CFA as Participation Bonus

Senegal Arrive in Equatorial Guinea Ahead of Group C Showdown

Equatorial Guinea — Senegal’s national team has landed in Equatorial Guinea as preparations intensify ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. The Lions of Teranga, led by head coach Alain Giresse, will be based in Mongomo for the group stage, where they are drawn into what many have dubbed the tournament’s “Group of Death” — alongside South Africa, Algeria, and Ghana.

The team arrived on Thursday following a training camp in Morocco. As part of the tournament’s health protocol, the squad made a brief stop in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea’s capital, where they underwent mandatory Ebola screening before continuing on to their group base.

In a gesture of motivation, each member of the Senegalese squad received a bonus payment of 4 million CFA francs (approximately €6,100), as confirmed by local radio station RFM and a senior football official within the Senegalese Football Federation.

Senegal’s opening fixture will be a major test, as they take on Ghana in Mongomo in what promises to be one of the most highly anticipated clashes of the tournament.
