Algeria Eyes Victory Against Malawi to Secure AFCON 2015 Qualification
Algeria’s Ryad Mahrez and his teammates are poised for a critical showdown against Malawi this Wednesday at the Moustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida. With the 2015 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification on the line, the Fennecs are determined to secure their spot in Morocco.
For Mahrez and Algeria, the equation is simple: a draw would be enough to seal their qualification. However, the Leicester City winger is fully aware that securing that result won’t come easily. Reflecting on the challenge ahead, Mahrez said:
“Optimistic, yes. We have a good team and a very good squad to be able to beat Malawi. However, we must not say that Malawi will be an easy match. They are a difficult team to handle. They have certain qualities that we saw in the first leg in Blantyre.”
Algeria, currently the favorites, are aware that Malawi can cause trouble if they aren’t focused. Mahrez was cautious about underestimating their opponents:
“It’s not like Mali, certainly, but they are a team that can create danger if we take it lightly. The match will take place at home in Blida, in front of our supporters, and that’s a very important asset for us. We know our opponent, and we must focus on the match to get the result we want.”
For Algeria, the stakes are incredibly high. Mahrez emphasized that this match could be their ticket to AFCON 2015, saying:
“We are 90 minutes away from happiness. We need to win at all costs. Our fans will be there to support us, and we must make sure we satisfy them. With twelve points, we’ll be safe.”
The Fennecs currently lead Group B and, with the home advantage, are eager to officially confirm their place in Morocco with a victory over Malawi. It’s a pivotal moment for Mahrez and Algeria, who are determined to make the most of their opportunity.
