CAN 2015 Qualifiers: Zambia Thrash Niger, Cape Verde Edge Past Mozambique

Zambia Bounce Back with Convincing Win Over Niger

After a frustrating 0-0 draw in Niamey on Matchday 3, Zambia responded emphatically on Wednesday by defeating Niger 3-0 in Lusaka during Matchday 4 of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

All three goals came in the second half:

  • Rainford Kalaba opened the scoring in the 58th minute,

  • Emmanuel Mayuka doubled the lead in the 73rd,

  • and Kennedy Mweene sealed the victory from the penalty spot in the 87th minute.

This win brings Zambia to five points, reviving their campaign in a competitive group that also features Mozambique and Cape Verde. Cape Verde maintained their position at the top with a narrow 1-0 win over Mozambique, thanks to Ryan Mendes, bringing their total to 9 points.

Starting Lineups:

Zambia:
Mweene – N. Mulenga, Sunzu, Malama, Mbola – Sinkala, Musakanya, C. Zulu – Singuluma, Kalaba – Mayuka

Niger:
Daouda – Katkoré, Souley, Dan Kowa, Fatoghoma – Lancina, Youssouf, Moutari – Ali, Cissé, Maazou

Zambia will hope this momentum carries into the final stages of qualification, with their attacking power finally clicking into gear.
