Ghana Bounce Back with 3-2 Win Over Togo in AFCON Qualifiers
Ghana revitalized their campaign in Group E of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Togo on Wednesday, following a disappointing 1-1 draw against Uganda in their opening match.
The Black Stars faced a stern test in Togo, but coach Kwesi Appiah praised his squad’s resilience and acknowledged the challenge posed by the Togolese side. “Before arriving here, we knew the match was going to be difficult. We knew we had to play a great game because Togo is full of good players,” Appiah said. “I thank the Ghanaian public who made the trip; they supported us a lot, especially in the difficult moments.”
Despite the win, Ghana’s attack showed some signs of disjointed play. Veteran striker Emmanuel Adebayor pointed to communication issues among the forwards as a factor in their struggles. “Between Dové, Atakora, and myself, we struggled. It’s a big match, I think they are players of the future. We must encourage them,” Adebayor remarked.
Looking ahead, Adebayor emphasized the urgency of the situation as the qualifiers near their conclusion. “We are heading towards the end, they are the next generation. Now we have our backs to the wall, if we want to qualify, we need 23 fighters, 23 players, 23 warriors ready to qualify the country for the CAN.”
Ghana’s victory keeps them firmly in contention for a spot at the tournament in Morocco, but the team knows the path ahead will require determination and unity if they are to succeed.
