South Africa Held to a Draw by Congo in 2015 CAN Qualifiers
After a stunning victory over Congo last Saturday in Pointe-Noire, South Africa was unable to build on that success, settling for a 0-0 draw at home on Wednesday in the fourth round of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Red Devils of Congo fought hard to earn a valuable point, keeping them very much alive in the race for qualification.
The match was intense but lacked goals, as both teams struggled to break down each other’s defenses. South Africa’s Bafana Bafana couldn’t replicate their earlier brilliance, and the draw left the group more open than ever.
Meanwhile, Nigeria finally found their form after a difficult start to the campaign. The Super Eagles secured an important 3-1 victory over Sudan in Abuja, putting them back in contention.
As the group now stands:
-
South Africa leads with 8 points.
-
Congo follows closely with 7 points.
-
Nigeria is in third place with 4 points.
-
Sudan remains at the bottom with 3 points.
With everything still to play for, this group has become increasingly competitive, with the race for the top two spots heating up.
