Nigeria Bounce Back with Crucial Win Over Sudan
After a turbulent start to their 2015 AFCON qualifying campaign, Nigeria finally secured their first victory, defeating Sudan 3-1 on Wednesday. The win at last offers some relief to Stephen Keshi and the Super Eagles, who had gone three matchdays without a win.
Playing with more composure and urgency, Nigeria took control of the match, though the breakthrough came only in the second half. Ahmed Musa opened the scoring, finishing off a pass from John Obi Mikel. Sudan, however, responded quickly with an equalizer from Salah Ibrahim “Jizoli”, who capitalized on a well-placed free kick by Elgadir.
Unwilling to let another opportunity slip, Nigeria pushed forward. Aaron Samuel restored the lead in the 65th minute, and Ahmed Musa sealed the result with a second goal in the 89th, completing his brace.
Now with 4 points, Nigeria remains third in their group and must continue to fight to reach at least second place to keep their AFCON 2015 hopes alive.
