Senegal Hit by Injury Wave Ahead of Tunisia Clash in CAN 2015 Qualifiers
Only 21 players will make the trip from Dakar to Monastir this Monday for Senegal’s crucial clash against Tunisia, counting for the 4th day of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The confirmed absences of Moussa Sow and Salif Sané, both sidelined by injury and already back with their clubs since Sunday, have further depleted Alain Giresse’s squad. The situation is compounded by the still unclear status of Kara Mbodji, with team doctor Professor Fallou Cissé expected to clarify the case on Monday.
The growing injury list has led some observers to describe this doubleheader as a “massacre” for the Lions of Teranga, with one expert noting:
“Senegal will not soon forget the 3rd and 4th days of the 2015 CAN football qualifiers. From the start of the call-ups to the end of the matches, the den experienced a massacre with injuries, by the shovelful.”
There is, however, a glimmer of hope: Demba Bâ, who was ruled out of the match in Dakar just 72 hours ago, now appears fit and ready to feature. The Besiktas striker trained alongside Pape Cissé during Senegal’s final session before departure and showed promising form — a welcome boost for coach Giresse ahead of Wednesday night’s decisive encounter at the Stade Mustapha Ben Jannet.
