Libya Eliminated from AFCON Qualifiers After Heavy Loss to Rwanda
Libya’s journey in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2015 qualifiers has come to a premature end. Despite a commendable performance during the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, the Mediterranean Knights were eliminated in the preliminary round of the AFCON campaign.
In the return leg against Rwanda, Libya suffered a harsh 3-0 defeat, with all three goals coming from one man—Biori of the Rwandan national team, who netted an impressive hat-trick to secure Rwanda’s place in the next round.
With this victory, the Amavubi will now await the winner of the match between Congo and Namibia. Namibia goes into the second leg with a slight edge, having claimed a 1-0 win at home in the first leg.
This result is a significant blow for Libya, who had shown promise on the continental stage but now find themselves out of contention for the 2015 AFCON early in the campaign.
