Congo and South Africa Set for Crucial CAN 2015 Qualifier Double-Header
Congo and South Africa, the top two teams in Group A of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers, will face off next month in a highly anticipated home-and-away clash.
The South African Football Association (SAFA) confirmed on Tuesday the dates and venues for the double-header, which could prove decisive in the race for qualification.
The first leg is scheduled for 10 October in Pointe-Noire, kicking off at 13:30 GMT, while the return fixture will take place on 15 October at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, with kick-off set for 18:00 GMT.
Congo lead the group with six points after an impressive 3-2 away win over Nigeria and a solid 2-0 victory at home against Sudan. South Africa sit second on four points, having opened their campaign with a 3-0 away win over Sudan and followed up with a goalless draw against Nigeria in Cape Town.
Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba is expected to name his squad next week, SAFA confirmed on its official website.
The two-match showdown is set to shape the course of Group A, with all eyes on who will take a step closer to qualification for the tournament in Morocco.
