Cameroon Clinches 2-0 Victory Over DR Congo in Group D of 2015 AFCON Qualifiers
Cameroon delivered a commanding performance on the road against DR Congo in Lubumbashi, securing a crucial 2-0 win on the opening day of the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers in Group D.
The Indomitable Lions controlled much of the match, breaking the deadlock just before halftime. In stoppage time of the first half (45+3), Clinton Njie capitalized on a Congolese throw-in, expertly beating the Leopards’ goalkeeper to put Cameroon ahead 1-0.
DR Congo came out stronger in the second half, with Cédric Mabwati and Yannick Bolasie both coming close to leveling the score. However, Cameroon’s defense held firm, and the Lions extended their lead in the 83rd minute. Vincent Aboubakar, the newly signed FC Porto striker, fired a powerful and precise shot into the net after a well-orchestrated play started by Choupo-Moting.
This important away victory puts Cameroon in a strong position in Group D. Despite missing star striker Samuel Eto’o, the team’s solid showing sets a positive tone as they prepare to face Ivory Coast at home on Wednesday.
For DR Congo, the loss is a setback, but they will look to bounce back in their next match against Sierra Leone, also on home soil. The battle in this so-called “Group of Death” continues, with top teams vying fiercely for qualification to the continental tournament.
