Adebayor Confident as Togo Seeks to Confirm Qualification Push Against Uganda
Emmanuel Adebayor is brimming with confidence ahead of Togo’s crucial clash with Uganda on Wednesday in Lomé, part of the fourth round of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The Tottenham striker played a key role in the Hawks’ vital away win in Kampala last Saturday and is eager to build on that momentum.
“To keep our chances of qualifying alive, we had to win there. We did it despite the difficulties. Sure, we didn’t dominate the match, but we knew how to play as a team,” Adebayor stated after the match in Uganda.
Now, all eyes are on the return fixture at home, where Adebayor is calling on his teammates to deliver in front of their supporters:
“Now we have to confirm at home. We’ll be in front of our fans. We have to please them and definitely get our qualifiers underway.”
Togo currently sits at the bottom of Group E with 3 points, trailing Uganda and Guinea (4 points each) and group leader Ghana (5 points). A home win on Wednesday could dramatically reshape the group standings and revive Togo’s chances of reaching the 2015 AFCON finals in Morocco.
