Cape Verde kicked off their preparations for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in style with an impressive 3-2 comeback win over Congo in a friendly match played on Saturday at the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium in Dakar.
The Blue Sharks found themselves 2-0 down at halftime following first-half strikes from Thievy Bifouma (15′) and Prince Oniangue (30′) for Congo. However, Cape Verde mounted a spirited second-half comeback.
An own goal by Francis N’Ganga helped reduce the deficit before Cuca netted the equalizer in the 57th minute. Djaniny completed the turnaround by scoring the winning goal in the 70th minute, sealing a morale-boosting victory for Rui Águas’ men ahead of the tournament.
Cape Verde will be competing in Group B at AFCON 2015 alongside Zambia, Tunisia, and DR Congo.
