Equatorial Guinea to Play Attacking Football in Africa Cup of Nations Opener
Equatorial Guinea will adopt an attacking style in their opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations this Saturday, facing Claude Leroy’s Congo in Group A.
At a press conference on Friday, coach Esteban Becker outlined his game plan: “We will put in all our efforts and hopes; it will be a trial by fire for the young players. I won’t teach them how to play football—they already know that. Our role is to organize them and ensure they are in the best possible condition. What I can assure you is that the team will be fully committed.”
Becker, confident and well-acquainted with the Congolese squad, added: “We know Congo has been preparing for this championship for several months and we are fully aware of their strength. This first match is a great opportunity to see if our youngsters can handle the pressure. There is a lot of hope, desire, and quality. Many of our players compete for big clubs. We have a very good group and we are happy they are here.”
