CAN 2015: Ishak Belfodil Already Focused on Return Match Against Malawi

AFCON 2015 Qualifiers: Algeria Defeat Malawi 2-0 to Stay Perfect in Group B

Algeria’s national team, the Fennecs, took another step toward qualifying for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations with a solid 2-0 victory over Malawi on Saturday at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre. With this win, Christian Gourcuff’s men maintain their perfect record—three wins in three matches—and sit comfortably atop Group B.

⚽ Match Recap:

  • First Half: Algeria took early control of the game, with Rafik Halliche opening the scoring.

  • Second Half: Despite increased pressure from Malawi, Algeria sealed the win with a second goal, showcasing their defensive resilience and clinical finishing.

🗣️ Post-Match Reaction:

Ishak Belfodil, who featured in the match, shared his thoughts with BeIn Sport:

“It was a complicated match in a very heated atmosphere. Malawi has a very good team, but we started the match better and managed to score through Halliche. And even though the Malawians came back in the second half, we ended up scoring a second goal.”

Looking ahead to the return leg in Blida on Wednesday, Belfodil emphasized the team’s focus:

“We will need to recover well to best prepare for Wednesday’s match. We will approach this match as if it were a final in order to secure our qualification as soon as possible.”

🟢 Algeria’s Current Status:

  • Points: 9 (from 3 matches)

  • Goals scored: 6

  • Goals conceded: 1

  • Next Match: vs Malawi (return leg) on Wednesday in Blida

With another win, Algeria could mathematically confirm their qualification for the tournament in Morocco come January 2015.
