CAN 2015 – Hollande Congratulates Claude Le Roy for Congo’s Qualification

Claude Le Roy has once again proven why he’s regarded as a legendary figure in African football. With Congo’s qualification for the quarter-finals of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations—for the first time since 1992—Le Roy has further solidified his remarkable record on the continent.

This marks the 8th time he’s coached in a CAN tournament, and impressively, he has now reached the quarter-finals 7 times. His tactical discipline and ability to inspire underdog teams have made him a trusted and respected figure across Africa.

Adding a personal and emotional touch to this milestone, French President François Hollande reached out to Le Roy after the historic win over Burkina Faso (2-1). Hollande, recalling their shared history, noted:

“He reminded me that I was, like him, a former player of FC Rouen,” said Le Roy, visibly moved by the recognition.

This gesture underscores the unique bridge Claude Le Roy continues to build between France and Africa through football. His achievement with Congo is not just a personal triumph but a symbolic victory for smaller footballing nations aiming to reclaim their place in African football history.
