Togo’s Serge Akakpo Doubtful for Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier Due to Injury
Togo’s defender Serge Akakpo faces uncertainty ahead of the national team’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea, as he battles a thigh injury that may rule him out of the match.
The 28-year-old was absent from his Ukrainian club’s recent fixture against Olimpik Donetsk, which ended in a 1-0 defeat, missing the game as a precautionary measure. Akakpo, who had previously stepped down from his role as vice-captain, remains hopeful of recovery.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, the defender explained: “Due to a thigh issue, I had to withdraw from yesterday’s club match as a precaution. We’ll see how the injury develops in the coming days with the national team’s medical staff.”
Akakpo’s fitness will be closely monitored in the run-up to the qualifier, which is pivotal for Togo’s campaign in the first round of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
