Ghana Reveal Player Bonuses Ahead of 2015 AFCON to Avoid Brazil Repeat
In an effort to prevent a repeat of the bonus disputes that plagued the team during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced the bonus structure for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Each player in the Black Stars squad will receive a $5,000 bonus per group stage victory. Furthermore, should Ghana go all the way and win the tournament, every player will be rewarded with a $60,000 victory bonus.
This transparent and early communication of financial incentives is aimed at maintaining team focus and unity throughout the tournament in Equatorial Guinea. The GFA is eager to avoid a repeat of the 2014 scandal, when unpaid bonuses led to public embarrassment and disrupted the national team’s campaign in Brazil.
With expectations high, especially in a tough Group C alongside Algeria, Senegal, and South Africa, the GFA hopes this clear bonus policy will help motivate Asamoah Gyan and his teammates to aim for continental glory.
