Equatorial Guinea is gearing up to face Mauritania in the play-off matches for the African Cup of Nations qualifiers, with several notable absences from their squad.
Carlos Akapo Martinez, who plays for CD Numancia, and Eùimio Nsue Lopez, a midfielder from Mallorca, will both miss the upcoming match on May 17. Nsue Lopez cited his commitment to helping his team avoid relegation from the second division as the reason for his absence, informing both the Iberian press and the Equatorial Guinean federation of his decision.
This presents a challenge for Equatorial Guinea’s coach, Andoni Goikoetxea, as Nsue Lopez, a 24-year-old midfielder who scored three goals against Cape Verde during the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, is a key player for the team.
Despite these setbacks, several players have already arrived in Malabo, including Jesús Valeriano Nchama Oyono, Armando Sipo to Bohale Aqueriaco, Iban Iyanga Travieso “Randy”, David Álvarez Aguirre “Kily”, and Iván Bolado Palacios. Others are expected to join them before the team departs for Nouakchott on Thursday.
