The DRC national team, the Leopards, are gearing up for their crucial 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions on Saturday, September 6, at the Mazembe Stadium in Lubumbashi.
To fine-tune their preparations, the Leopards played a friendly against local club TP Mazembe this Tuesday and secured a 2-1 victory, showing promising form under coach Florent Ibenge.
However, despite the team’s growing confidence, Constant Omari, president of the Congolese Football Association, has publicly criticized the Congolese government for its lack of support toward the Leopards. Omari highlighted that the government has been indifferent, notably pointing out that it was Moise Katumbi, the president of TP Mazembe, who had to provide the club’s plane to transport the national team to Lubumbashi.
This situation underscores challenges beyond the pitch that the Leopards face ahead of this important qualifier.
