AFCON 2015 – CAF Sets January 7 Deadline for Final Squad Lists
With the final round of qualifiers for the 30th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) underway, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the deadline for the submission of final squad lists: January 7, 2015.
The 2015 AFCON, originally set to be hosted by Morocco, will now take place in Equatorial Guinea from January 17 to February 8, following Morocco’s withdrawal due to Ebola concerns.
CAF has made it mandatory for each of the 16 qualified nations to submit a final list of 23 players by January 7. Any team failing to meet this deadline will face sanctions — specifically, they will only be allowed to register 21 players for the tournament.
With qualification still being finalized across the continent, national teams are already preparing for this administrative deadline, as the focus begins to shift from qualification to tournament planning.
