Congo Eyes Continued Success Against Sudan After Impressive Win Over Nigeria
Following a remarkable victory over Nigeria in their opening 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers match, Congo is eager to maintain momentum when they face Sudan this Wednesday.
The Red Devils stunned the African champions and recent World Cup quarter-finalists with a strong performance in Calabar, setting high expectations for their upcoming fixture against Sudan.
Coach Claude Le Roy can call upon a bolstered squad for this crucial encounter, with the anticipated returns of Delvin Ndinga and Igor Nganga. Ndinga, the Olympiakos midfielder who missed the Nigeria trip due to injury, is expected to resume his role in midfield on home soil. Meanwhile, defender Igor Nganga, sidelined before the Nigeria match with injury, has rejoined training with the squad ahead of the clash.
Congo and Sudan share a familiar rivalry, meeting in the same CAN qualifying group for the third time in four years. Past encounters have not favoured the Red Devils, who are keen to avenge recent defeats. In the 2012 qualifiers, Sudan triumphed 1-0 in Brazzaville and followed up with a 2-0 win in Khartoum. More notably, Sudan denied Congo a place at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations on the final day of qualifying. After winning the first leg 1-0 in Brazzaville, Congo were eliminated following a 2-0 loss in Khartoum, where a draw or a single goal would have sufficed to advance.
Determined to rewrite history, Congo enters Wednesday’s match with confidence and a strengthened lineup, aiming to secure the points needed to advance further in the competition.
