CAN 2015: Adebayor Leads Togo to 1-0 Victory in Uganda to Get Back on Track

Togo Revives AFCON Hopes with Historic Win Over Uganda

Togo secured a crucial 1-0 away win against Uganda on Saturday in their third match of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The victory, earned at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, breathes new life into the Hawks’ qualification hopes and ends Uganda’s 10-year unbeaten home record.

The lone goal came in the 30th minute, courtesy of right-back Donou Kokou. The Togolese defender found the net following sustained pressure from Togo’s attack, leaving Ugandan goalkeeper Dennis Onyango helpless.

With qualification at stake, coach Tchanilé Tchakala’s men showed early intensity. Striker Emmanuel Adebayor and Jonathan Ayité troubled the Cranes’ defense, while Togo demonstrated improved tactical discipline.

Despite late pressure from Uganda—led by Geoffroy Massa, Brian Majjwega, and Luwagga Kizito—the Togolese defense held firm. Strategic substitutions, including replacing Adebayor and Ayité in the second half, helped the visitors preserve their narrow lead.

This win marks Togo’s first in the qualifiers and puts them back in contention for a place at Morocco 2015. They will host Uganda in the return leg next Wednesday at the Kégué Stadium in Lomé, where a second consecutive win could shift the balance in Group E.
