Togo is facing a wave of setbacks in the lead-up to their match against Gabon on October 14, as another injury plagues the West African team. Serge Gakpé, the striker for FC Nantes, suffered an injury during a training session on Wednesday morning. The Togolese international experienced thigh pain after a ball strike, forcing him to cut short his efforts and prematurely head back to the locker room. Michel Der Zakarian, his coach, expressed his concern, stating, “He crashed… This is annoying because it is the ‘hitting’ muscle of the right thigh. He is expected to be out for at least three weeks.”
Coincidentally, three weeks is the exact duration of unavailability for another Togolese attacker. Razak Boukari will also miss the game in Lomé due to a calf strain. While the Wolverhampton player has not yet been replaced in the list of 23 players initially called up by Didier Six, the addition of Gakpé’s injury presents a potential challenge for the Eperviers coaching staff. The accumulation of injuries is posing a concern for Togo as they prepare for their upcoming match against Gabon.
