In light of recent incidents, South Africa has decided to increase security measures for the participants of the 29th African Cup of Nations (CAN 2013). The 16 nations participating in CAN 2013 will be under 24-hour surveillance, with security provided for all teams. This decision comes after an incident that occurred following a friendly match between South Africa’s Bafana Bafana and Zambia on November 14. Security measures include police escorts for buses carrying players at all times. Additionally, certain items like glass bottles and cans will be prohibited in stadiums, and drinks will be sold in plastic containers to enhance safety.
