South African defender Morgan Gould has suffered a significant setback as he sustained an Achilles tendon injury during a training session with his club, Kaizer Chiefs. The injury is expected to keep him off the pitch for six months, meaning he will likely miss the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2013, which South Africa is hosting.
Gould, a promising member of the Bafana Bafana national team, joined Kaizer Chiefs from Supersport United for the current season. Unfortunately, the 29-year-old defender’s campaign has been cut short due to the Achilles injury. He played only one league match for Kaizer Chiefs, contributing to a 6-2 victory against Amazulu on the first day of the South African championship.
The Kaizer Chiefs’ coaching staff will need to reorganize their defensive lineup in Gould’s absence, and the player will undergo a rehabilitation process to recover from the injury. Missing the opportunity to participate in the AFCON, particularly when hosted by his home country, is undoubtedly a disappointment for Morgan Gould.
