André Ayew has been excluded from the Ghanaian national team for CAN 2013 by coach Kwessi Appiah due to his late arrival at the start of the Black Stars’ camp in Abu Dhabi. Despite having been scheduled to take a flight on Sunday evening, Ayew received a last-minute phone call instructing him not to join the selection. The coach cited the desire for players at 100% as the reason for the exclusion, despite other reported injuries in the squad. Ayew expressed surprise at the decision, and his brother, Jordan Ayew, also did not make the squad. The sons of the iconic Ghanaian player Abedi Pélé will not be participating in the tournament in South Africa.
