Marcel Desailly, the Canal+ football consultant, has shared his straightforward verdict on Togo’s chances of progressing through the group stage in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2013. Speaking on the show “En route pour la CAN,” the former French international of Ghanaian origin expressed skepticism about Togo’s advancement in what he referred to as the “group of death.”
Desailly stated, “I don’t see them going to the second round. The most important thing is that they have fun. It’s already good to find them at the CAN after everything that happened (referring to the Cabinda incident). But this group is tough, and despite Adebayor, they will not pass.”
Togo has been drawn into Group D alongside strong opponents such as Ivory Coast, Tunisia, and Algeria for the CAN 2013 tournament. Desailly’s comments reflect the challenging nature of the group and the formidable competition that Togo will face in their bid to advance to the next stage of the tournament.
