Claude Le Roy, the coach of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), experienced the bitter taste of elimination from the 29th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). Despite being undefeated in the group stage, the Leopards failed to secure the necessary victory to advance to the quarter-finals.
Le Roy, known as the “white wizard” and the most capped coach at the 2013 CAN, set a minimum goal of progressing past the group stage for his team. Unfortunately, the desired victory eluded them, and they finished third in Group B behind Mali and Ghana.
Dieumerci Mbokani gave the DRC an early lead with a penalty, but Mali fought back to equalize, ultimately securing a draw. This result marked the end of Claude Le Roy’s CAN campaign, as the Leopards failed to reach the quarter-finals. It was the first time in Le Roy’s CAN history that he did not progress beyond the group stage.
