The Stallions achieved the highest score of the 29th edition of CAN 2013 by defeating Ethiopia 4-0. Burkina Faso, dressed in all green, dominated the match from the start.
The game began with a 20-meter strike from Pitroipa at the 4th minute. Ethiopia responded with a shot from Shimelis in the 4th minute, but it hit the right post. However, Ethiopia suffered a setback as one of their key players, Adane, had to leave the field due to injury and was replaced by Asefa at the 11th minute.
Burkina Faso took the lead in the 34th minute when Alain Traoré scored a goal after significant pressure from the Stallions. They continued to dominate, and Traoré scored again in the 74th minute, making it 2-0. Djakardja extended the lead to 3-0 in the 79th minute after an assist from Pitroipa.
In the 86th minute, Ethiopia’s goalkeeper received a red card for catching the ball outside the penalty area. Burkina Faso’s Diakité replaced him, and Pitroipa scored the fourth goal in injury time.
The victory put Burkina Faso in a strong position in the group, while Ethiopia’s chances of advancing were severely impacted. The group remained open, with more matches to determine the final standings.
