André Onana stepped back into the public eye after his omission from Cameroon’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, choosing to focus attention on his resurgence in Turkey rather than the continental tournament.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper, currently on loan at Trabzonspor from Manchester United, shared his thoughts in an interview with the British press, where he described his current spell as one of personal and professional fulfilment.

Rather than addressing his absence from the national team, Onana highlighted the stability and happiness he now enjoys with the Turkish club.

“I feel no frustration at all. I am genuinely happy here,” Onana said, reflecting on his daily life and performances in the Süper Lig.

Since arriving in Turkey, the 27-year-old has regained regular match action, something he struggled to secure at Manchester United.

He has featured in 13 league games so far, playing a central role in Trabzonspor’s strong campaign. The club currently sits third in the league standings, trailing only Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray, and continues to push for a top finish.

Onana’s absence from Cameroon’s AFCON squad surprised many observers. A recent coaching change at national level reshaped selection choices, and the goalkeeper lost his place as a result.

Despite the disappointment surrounding that decision, Onana chose calm reflection rather than public criticism, instead placing emphasis on his club form and personal growth.

His enthusiasm for life in Turkey extends beyond football. Onana spoke warmly about the culture and the passion of supporters, describing everyday encounters that underline his strong connection with the local fanbase.

“People stop their cars just to take pictures. At first, it surprised me, but when I see their happiness, I feel joy as well,” he explained.

That sense of belonging fuels his desire to remain in Turkey beyond his loan spell. Onana made clear that he would welcome a permanent move if circumstances allow. “If the financial conditions allow it, I would happily stay longer,” he said.

Manchester United still hold his contract until 2028, which leaves any long-term decision in the hands of negotiations between the two clubs.

For now, Onana continues to concentrate on consistent performances and professional balance, confident that regular football and a supportive environment will shape the next phase of his career.

His calm, measured tone signals a player focused on progress rather than controversy, determined to let his performances speak louder than any omission.
