Cameroonian Karl Etta Eyong backs Vincent Aboubakar ahead of AFCON 2025
Karl Etta Eyong continues to impress in Spain. The 21-year-old Cameroonian striker has scored four goals and delivered three assists this season.
He started strongly with Villarreal before securing a move to Levante on the final day of the transfer window.
His consistent performances have earned him a nomination for the Player of the Month award, alongside global stars like Kylian Mbappé.
During an interview on Canal+, Eyong shared his thoughts on his role with Cameroon’s national team at the upcoming AFCON in Morocco.
Before discussing his ambitions, he paid tribute to Indomitable Lions captain Vincent Aboubakar.
“Vincent Aboubakar deserves huge respect,” Eyong said. “People forget players too quickly when things go wrong, but I don’t.
I have immense respect for him. But in football, the one performing must play, and the one not performing should not.
“If I get the chance to play, I will seek his advice. If I have to start, I will do so with full commitment. It would be a huge honour to be selected for the tournament.
We all know hard work is the only way forward. I must keep delivering strong numbers because without them, I won’t have the opportunity to represent my country at AFCON 2025.
It all comes down to work and humility.”
Eyong also spoke about his football idols and the figures who shaped his journey. “My idol is Yaya Touré,” he said. “When I played as a midfielder, he inspired me with his power and acceleration.
Now that I’m a striker, I look up to Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o. My dream is to play in the Premier League and experience Boxing Day football.”
The young forward will carry high expectations heading into AFCON 2025. His rapid rise in La Liga and growing influence make him one of Cameroon’s most promising talents.
As he continues to develop, Eyong could become a key figure for the Indomitable Lions in Morocco and a crucial player in the country’s next generation.
