Cameroonian French midfielder Lucien Agoumé on Borussia Dortmund’s radar ahead of U21 Euros

Cameroonian French midfielder Lucien Agoumé on Borussia Dortmund’s radar ahead of U21 Euros

Borussia Dortmund are closely monitoring Lucien Agoumé as the France U21 international prepares for a pivotal summer tournament, with the German giants weighing a potential move for the promising midfielder.

Agoumé, born in Cameroon and representing France at youth level, remains firmly on Dortmund’s radar as the Bundesliga club looks to reinforce its midfield options. According to reports from Tuttomercato, Dortmund’s interest is ongoing and reflects a longer-term scouting commitment that dates back to the player’s early professional days.

The 22-year-old endured a mixed 2024/25 campaign at Sevilla, where he initially struggled to secure a consistent starting role. However, his influence grew steadily during the latter part of the season.

By its conclusion, Agoumé had established himself as a valuable tactical asset in the heart of Sevilla’s midfield, demonstrating maturity, vision and composure under pressure.

Sevilla originally secured Agoumé on loan from Inter Milan for the 2023/24 season. Impressed by his potential, the Andalusian club then purchased 50 percent of his rights for €4 million.

They now face a deadline of 15 June to activate a clause that would allow them to acquire full ownership of the player for an additional €4 million.

The timing is critical. With the UEFA U21 European Championship approaching, Agoumé is poised to showcase his development on an international stage.

Strong performances could not only justify Sevilla’s financial outlay but also heighten competition for his signature, especially with Dortmund already showing strong intent.

The midfielder’s ties to Dortmund date back several years. Club scouts first became aware of his potential during his stint at Inter Milan, where his technical ability and tactical intelligence drew attention across Europe.

At the time, Victor Orta, then part of Sevilla’s recruitment team, was among the first to advocate for Agoumé’s talent. That connection, paired with Dortmund’s reputation for developing young players, makes the current interest unsurprising.

Dortmund’s approach has long been characterised by identifying and nurturing emerging talent and Agoumé fits this profile well.

His versatility in midfield, ability to control tempo and sharp passing range make him an appealing option as the club prepares for the upcoming season with an eye on both domestic and European competitions.

For Sevilla, the next few days could prove decisive. Exercising their purchase option would give them full control of Agoumé’s future and the potential to profit from any subsequent transfer.

However, hesitation may open the door for Dortmund or other suitors to step in.

The U21 European Championship may therefore serve as more than just a tournament for Agoumé. It could be the stage that determines the next chapter of his career. With scouts from across the continent expected to attend, every performance will be under close scrutiny.

As Borussia Dortmund continue to refine their summer transfer strategy, Lucien Agoumé remains a name near the top of their list, an emerging talent whose trajectory may soon intersect with one of Europe’s most ambitious clubs.
