Karl Etta Eyong has outlined his ambitions for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, declaring his readiness to fight for a place in Cameroon’s squad.

The 21-year-old striker, who continues to impress in La Liga with Levante, spoke openly about his aspirations and respect for those who paved the way before him.

The young forward’s rise in Spanish football has been nothing short of remarkable. After breaking through at Villarreal, Etta Eyong sealed a move to Levante on the final day of the summer transfer window.

His impact has been immediate. With four goals and three assists already this season, he has earned a nomination for La Liga’s Player of the Month, competing alongside global stars such as Kylian Mbappé.

During an appearance on Canal+Sport’s Talents d’Afrique, the Cameroonian prospect reflected on his journey and the mindset driving his ambitions.

He also expressed deep admiration for Indomitable Lions captain Vincent Aboubakar, whose leadership continues to inspire the next generation.

“Vincent Aboubakar deserves a lot of respect,” he said. “People forget footballers when things don’t go well, but I don’t.

Whoever performs should play, and whoever doesn’t shouldn’t. That’s the reality.”

His words reflected a level of maturity beyond his years, highlighting a clear understanding of the demands at the highest level.

As speculation grows around his potential call-up for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, Etta Eyong remains grounded and focused on delivering strong performances for his club.

“If I get the chance to play, I will look to him for advice,” he said. “It would be a huge honour to represent my country.

But that opportunity will only come through hard work and maintaining my stats. If I don’t perform, I won’t earn the call-up.”

The forward knows that consistency will determine his future with the national team. His determination reflects a player intent on forging his path rather than relying on potential alone.

He understands that delivering results week after week remains the most effective way to earn the trust of national selectors.

Etta Eyong also spoke about the players who shaped his career. As a youngster playing in midfield, he idolised Yaya Touré.

Since transitioning into a forward, he has drawn inspiration from African legends Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o.

“My idol was Yaya Touré,” he revealed. “Now, as a striker, I look up to Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o.

My dream is to play in the Premier League one day, especially during Boxing Day.”

Those words reflect a forward-thinking mentality and a desire to compete at the highest level of the game.

For now, though, his focus remains firmly on continuing his development in La Liga and ensuring he earns a place in Rigobert Song’s squad for AFCON 2025.

With raw talent, humility, and determination, Karl Etta Eyong represents the future of Cameroonian football.

His rise in Spain signals the emergence of a player capable of making an impact both for club and country.

If he maintains his current form, his dream of wearing the famous green shirt on Africa’s biggest stage could soon become a reality.
