When George Elokobi led Maidstone United out at Coventry’s stadium on Monday night, he etched his name into the history books.

Elokobi became the first Cameroonian manager to take charge of a team in the FA Cup fifth round.

The 38-year-old guided Maidstone through a memorable run, which saw them knock out three EFL clubs to become the first sixth-tier side to reach this stage since 1978.

Their adventure ended with a 5-0 defeat, but Elokobi and his players have been the story of this season’s competition.

The former Cameroon international defender made his breakthrough at Colchester United in the early 2000s after moving to England as a teenager.

He went on to enjoy a 13-year playing career across the top three tiers before turning his hand to coaching.

Elokobi has implemented an eye-catching style of play at Maidstone, gaining admirers across the country.

His historic achievements mean he will forever occupy a pioneering place in English football’s history books.
