Cameroon Radio and Television (CRTV) has filed a complaint against private television stations Stv, Equinoxe Tv, and Canal 2 International for broadcasting Cameroon’s qualifying matches for the 2014 World Cup “without authorization” and “to the detriment of CRTV.” The complaint, issued on December 3, 2013, alleges that the private channels ignored warnings against pirating images and taunted CRTV. CRTV is seeking 100 million CFA francs in damages and the immediate cessation of broadcasts of football matches for which CRTV holds exclusive rights. The case is set to be heard on January 20, 2014.
