The Cameroonian football championship may see an increase in the number of clubs from 14 to 16 for the upcoming season. This proposal is aimed at providing players with more competitive opportunities, increasing the number of matches from 26 to 32 per season. The suggestion was put forward by Celine Ekon, the president of the board of directors of Canon de Yaoundé, during a meeting of the board of directors of the Cameroon Professional Football League (Lfpc), held shortly before the end of the current championship.
While the majority of presidents from Elite One clubs accepted the proposal, there were exceptions, notably from Franck Happi, the president of Union de Douala and vice-president of the Lfpc, and Isaïe Ngalè Nemangou, the president of Douala Athletic Club (DAC). The proposal, if approved, will be implemented immediately in the next season and has been submitted to the Fécafoot Standardization Committee for a final decision.
As a result, teams like Panthère du Nde and Sable de Batié, which were relegated in the previous season, may get the chance to return. Tonnerre Kalara Club (TKC) could find itself as the only team in the lower division. In the current season, Coton Sport was crowned champion, with Astres and Union de Douala finishing second and third, respectively.
