Following Cameroon’s disappointing exit from the U17 World Cup Brazil 2019, the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) has announced major changes to the youth national team’s staff.

Coach Thomas Libiih, who led the team at the tournament, has been dismissed, along with several members of his technical, administrative, and medical staff. According to Fecafoot, Libiih faced criticism for refusing to sign the Act of Adherence to the Charter of National Teams. Goalkeeping coach Thaddée Owono Foe and physical conditioning coach Olivier Nankam Fammegne have also been relieved of their duties. Additionally, team doctor Bernard Didias, physiotherapist Andre Florentin Ekani Ekani, and team manager Lucien Mettomo have been removed from their positions.

The decision follows a poor showing at the World Cup, where the U17 Lions failed to progress past the group stage. Cameroon lost all three matches, scoring just one goal while conceding six, a stark contrast to their triumph at the African U17 Cup of Nations in Tanzania earlier in May.

With the staff changes now official, Thomas Libiih and his former colleagues will be looking for new opportunities, while Fecafoot seeks to rebuild the team ahead of future youth competitions.
