Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Set for Namibia with Cameroon Drawn in ‘Group of Death’
The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) is scheduled to take place from 11 to 24 October in Namibia, featuring eight teams who have qualified for the tournament’s final stage. Last week’s draw revealed a challenging group for Cameroon, who find themselves in a so-called ‘group of death’ alongside Ghana, South Africa, and Algeria.
During the qualification phase, most national teams relied heavily on players from their domestic leagues. However, for the final tournament, coaches will have the advantage of selecting professional players currently plying their trade abroad, as clubs are expected to release their players for national duty.
Among those returning to bolster the Cameroonian squad is defender Augustine Ejangue Siliki, who currently plays for Norwegian club Amazone Grimstad. Speaking to camerounsports.info, Ejangue confirmed her participation: “We talked about it at my club and it’s a done deal. I’ll be there to defend my country’s colours.”
The inclusion of such experienced internationals will be crucial as teams gear up for what promises to be a fiercely competitive tournament, showcasing the growing talent and profile of women’s football across Africa.
