Cameroonian Authorities Seize Eto’o’s Passport Amid World Cup Investigation
Samuel Eto’o, the captain of Cameroon’s national football team, has reportedly had his passport confiscated as part of an official investigation into the country’s disappointing performance at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The investigation, ordered by Cameroonian President Paul Biya, is being led by Prime Minister Philemon Yang and aims to uncover the causes of the Indomitable Lions’ chaotic campaign in Brazil, which was marred by infighting, a player bonus dispute, and a winless group-stage exit.
After summoning various players for questioning, authorities called on Eto’o, 33, to appear before the judicial police. Initially, the former Barcelona and Chelsea striker sent his legal representative in his place. However, investigators reportedly insisted on Eto’o’s personal presence. The veteran forward eventually complied and appeared at police headquarters.
