President of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto’o has confirmed that head coach David Pagou will remain at the helm of affairs for the Indomitable Lions despite missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco.
The Indomitable Lions quest of securing the continental showpiece for the first time since 2017 took a nosedive after succumbing to a defeat to hosts, Morocco in the quarterfinals of the recently concluded tournament.
Prior to the commencement of the tournament, the Cameroonian FA led by Samuel Eto’o parted ways with Belgian trainer Marc Brys, replacing him with David Pagou.
Despite short preparation period with Cameroon, Pagou guided the Indomitable Lions to the last 8 of the tournament.
However, Eto’o has confirmed Pagou will continue as the head coach of Cameroon, bringing an end to speculations about his future after AFCON 2025 exit.
Eto’o stressed that the decision was both deliberate and strategic, emphasizing the importance of stability as the national team goes through a crucial rebuilding phase.
Besides, the former African Footballer of the Year affirmed that frequent changes in leadership would only hinder progress and derail the long-term vision being put in place for Cameroonian football.
He affirmed that continuity on the bench is essential for developing a clear identity and allowing players to grow within a consistent system. He noted that patience and trust in the current project are key ingredients for future success.
