Cameroon: Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu teased by teammates amid personal scandal

Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu found himself at the center of playful jibes from his Cameroon teammates just days before the African World Cup 2026 playoff against DR Congo in Rabat, Morocco.

Footage circulating on social media shows the Indomitable Lions’ camp in high spirits, even as the winger navigates a personal controversy.

In a video filmed at the team hotel, centre-back Michael Ngadeu and forward Christian Bassogog can be seen and heard teasing Ngamaleu, who repeatedly tells the camera, “Please don’t touch me.”

The humorous moment references a recent viral clip showing Ngamaleu confronted by his ex-girlfriend, Nikki Seey, at a guesthouse.

The incident, which left the 31-year-old shirtless and in national team shorts attempting to block the young woman’s entourage, quickly became a subject of widespread discussion online.

The Dinamo Moscow player has been at the center of a media storm in recent days.

In response, the Cameroonian National Footballers’ Union (Synafoc), led by former right-back Geremi Njitap, intervened to defend him.

In an official statement, the association condemned what it called a campaign of destabilization and slander, emphasizing that the events were strictly personal and unrelated to his professional life.

“He urges the authors of these publications, as well as all those who, lurking in the shadows, may be their instigators, to please exercise restraint, as the images and events crudely staged are strictly a matter of his private life,” Synafoc stated.

Despite the off-field distractions, Ngamaleu remains a key figure for the Indomitable Lions as they prepare for the semi-final clash.

Cameroon will take on DR Congo this Thursday in a match that could determine the continent’s representative in the intercontinental playoffs for the 2026 World Cup.

Teammates’ lighthearted teasing appears to be a strategy to maintain morale within the squad while helping Ngamaleu navigate the pressure of intense public scrutiny.

The incident highlights the delicate balance athletes often face between their personal lives and professional responsibilities, particularly in the high-stakes environment of international football.

Ngamaleu is expected to take the field despite the controversy, with the Indomitable Lions focused on their immediate goal: securing a place in the final stages of the 2026 World Cup qualification process. With team unity and morale reportedly high, Cameroon aims to channel both on-field focus and off-field humor to maintain momentum in Rabat.

The semi-final promises to be a pivotal moment for Cameroon, and all eyes will be on how Ngamaleu and his teammates perform under the combined pressures of competition and personal scrutiny.
