Following Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses’ 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast last Tuesday, striker Nchout Ajara Njoya demonstrated remarkable generosity by donating her match victory bonus to victims of the Ngouaché landslide in Bafoussam. The decisive goal, a converted penalty by Njoya in the closing minutes of the game, not only secured Cameroon’s win but also provided an opportunity for her to support her community in a time of crisis.

The landslide occurred on October 28, 2019, in the Gouachié 4 neighborhood, a hillside settlement in Bafoussam. Dozens of makeshift homes were destroyed, leaving many families homeless and in urgent need of assistance. Official reports confirmed 43 deaths, with several residents still unaccounted for following the disaster. The devastation left the community reeling, and immediate aid was desperately required to assist survivors and rebuild the neighborhood.

In a message posted to her Twitter account, Nchout Ajara Njoya expressed her solidarity with the victims. “MY VICTORY BONUS FOR MY BROTHERS IN GOUATCHE,” she wrote. She explained that while playing against Ivory Coast, her thoughts were with those affected by the disaster. “In addition to the victory, which I dedicate to my parents, brothers, and sisters affected by the disaster in Gouache (Bafoussam), I am also offering my victory bonus against Ivory Coast to ease your suffering,” she continued, emphasizing her commitment to helping the community through this difficult time. She concluded with a heartfelt invocation: “May God the Creator help us through this.”

Nchout Ajara Njoya is widely recognized not only for her talent on the football field but also for her consistent charitable work. Earlier this year, she contributed to supporting students at the start of the school year, providing assistance not only in the West region but also extending aid to schools in the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon. Her actions reflect a deep sense of social responsibility and a commitment to giving back to communities in need.

The gesture of donating her match bonus carries both symbolic and practical significance. By dedicating her earnings to the victims, Njoya not only draws attention to the plight of the families affected by the landslide but also provides tangible support that can help address immediate needs such as shelter, food, and basic supplies. Her initiative serves as an example of how athletes can leverage their success to make a meaningful difference in society.

The victory over Ivory Coast itself was a hard-fought encounter, with Nchout Ajara Njoya’s penalty proving decisive in securing the three points for Cameroon. Beyond the sporting achievement, the match now also represents an act of compassion, demonstrating how sports figures can use their platform to inspire and aid communities in distress.

With Cameroon advancing confidently in their campaign, the actions of Nchout Ajara Njoya resonate far beyond the pitch. By donating her victory bonus to the victims of the Gouachié 4 landslide, she has shown that her commitment to her country extends well beyond football, embodying leadership, empathy, and civic responsibility in both sport and society.
