Cameroon midfielder Frank Anguissa suffers fresh injury blow as Napoli midfield crisis deepens

Napoli have suffered another major injury setback with Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa facing a spell on the sidelines after medical examinations revealed a new thigh problem.

According to reports, the Cameroon international has been diagnosed with a low-grade lesion to the long adductor muscle in his right thigh. The injury comes after Anguissa missed Napoli’s 1-1 draw against Fiorentina at the weekend because of the same issue.

The latest setback is another frustrating blow for Anguissa, who had been expected to return to full fitness and strengthen Napoli’s midfield options. While the nature of the injury is not expected to keep him out for several months, he is likely to spend a number of weeks recovering.

Kevin De Bruyne is currently sidelined with a long-term thigh injury, while Stanislav Lobotka is also unavailable. Scott McTominay has additionally been ruled out after undergoing a procedure for a benign heart arrhythmia and is not expected to return until after the international break.

Anguissa, 30, has been an important figure for Napoli since joining the club in 2021 and remains under contract until June 2027. However, his recent injury problems have continued to disrupt his availability.

Last season, the midfielder spent a significant period on the sidelines after suffering a serious hamstring injury while on international duty with Cameroon. His return was subsequently delayed by a back problem, and he has now suffered another setback involving his adductor.

Napoli will hope the international break provides Anguissa with enough time to recover, although the club’s medical team will closely monitor his progress in the coming weeks.

The injury comes at an uncomfortable moment for the reigning Italian champions, who have endured an inconsistent start to the campaign. Napoli suffered a 3-2 defeat to Inter before being held to a 1-1 draw by Fiorentina, leaving Allegri with further selection problems to solve.
