A few days ago, FIFA, under the leadership of its president Sepp Blatter, extended congratulations to Iya Mohamed for his re-election as the head of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot).
However, the legitimacy of Iya Mohamed’s election is now in question as recent developments suggest a potential reevaluation. Following an appeal for the annulment of the General Assembly held on June 19, during which Iya Mohamed was elected, Marlène Emvoutou and John Ndeh, two unsuccessful candidates, submitted a request. The Fecafoot Appeals Commission has declared this General Assembly “void.”
Consequently, Iya Mohammed’s election on June 19 is said to be canceled, and new elections will need to be organized within Fecafoot.
This sudden turn of events is akin to a lightning strike on the newly formed executive office of the Cameroonian football federation, as the news of the annulment adds uncertainty and prompts the need for a fresh electoral process.
