Belgian trainer Marc Brys has been officially unveiled as Cameroon national team new head coach in a significant shake-up of the coaching setup, AfricaSoccer.com can confirm
At 61 years old, Brys brings a wealth of experience to the role, having managed various clubs across Europe and Asia.
The experienced tactician takes over from Rigobert Song, who was fired after the Indomitable Lions’ dismal AFCON performance in Cote d’Ivoire.
His coaching journey began at Londerzeel and saw success at Berchem Sport, where he clinched the Belgian Third Division title and Germinal Beerschot, where he lifted the Belgian Cup.
He also had stints at other Belgian clubs like KV Mechelen, OH Leuven, Excelsior Mouscron, KMSK Deinze, KFCO Beerschot and Sint-Truiden.
Also, he worked in the Netherlands for FC Eindhoven and FC Den Bosch and in Saudi Arabian clubs like Al Raed, Al-Faisaly and Najran SC.
Brys’s recent tenure at Leuven in Belgium’s top division underscores his capability, making him a strategic choice by the Cameroon Ministry of Sports to bolster the national team’s performance on the global stage.
Accompanying Brys are key figures from the previous coaching setup, ensuring a mix of continuity and fresh perspectives.
François Omam-Biyik assumes the role of first Assistant Coach, while Ashu Bessong takes up the position of second assistant coach.
Danny Nounkeu serves as Team Manager, with Christophe Manouvrier as Physical Trainer, Alioum Boukar handling the goalkeepers, and Germain Noël Essengue overseeing press relations.
Brys and his team face an immediate challenge with upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Angola and Cape Verde in June.
