Cameroon held by Congo in CAN 2027 qualifying

The Indomitable Lions were held to a 1-1 draw by Congo on Tuesday in the second round of CAN 2027 qualifying, after recovering from a difficult first half but being unable to complete the comeback.

Congo took the lead in the 24th minute through Geltany Stalgout Bantsiele. The Red Devils were well organised and posed a threat on the break, making the most of their opportunities before the interval.

Cameroon returned from half-time with greater purpose and increased the pressure on their opponents. Their improved performance quickly produced an equaliser in the 53rd minute.

A powerful cross from Mahamadou Nagida led to an unfortunate handball by Congo goalkeeper Melvin Zinga, allowing the Indomitable Lions to level the score.

Both sides pushed for a winning goal during the final 15 minutes, making tactical changes and launching further attacks. Neither team, however, was able to find the decisive finish and the score remained unchanged until the final whistle.

The result leaves the battle for qualification finely balanced in Group G, with Congo and Cameroon continuing their close contest for a place at CAN 2027.
