Cameroon forward Frank Magri lands in Doha for Al Gharafa switch

Frank Magri has arrived in Doha ahead of a move to Al Gharafa, with the Cameroon international expected to complete a new chapter in his career in Qatar.

The transfer is due to be officially confirmed on Tuesday morning, according to L’Equipe. An agreement has been reached for the forward to sign a two-season contract with the Qatari club, with the option of extending the deal by a further year.

Magri’s arrival represents a significant change of direction for the striker, who is set to leave his current surroundings and take on a new challenge in a developing football market. Al Gharafa have agreed to invest in his attacking qualities as they look to add an international forward to their squad.

The move will take Magri into a championship that is continuing to grow, where he will be expected to provide an attacking threat and demonstrate the effectiveness that has made him an international player for Cameroon.

His transfer comes after interest from clubs in England and France. A few weeks ago, Africafoot exclusively reported that Swansea City and SCO Angers were monitoring the Cameroon forward. Neither club, however, is expected to be his next destination, with Al Gharafa now close to completing the agreement.

The deal is also significant in financial terms. Transfermarkt currently values Magri at €3m, a figure that reflects the potential attached to the centre-forward as he prepares to continue his career in Doha.

Before the move, Magri earned an annual salary of €500,000 at Toulouse, equivalent to 325,000,000 CFA francs. His agreement with Al Gharafa is set to run for two seasons, with a further year available as an option.

Magri’s immediate future is therefore set to be settled in Qatar, where his transfer is expected to be formalised after the agreement between the relevant parties. The player has already arrived in Doha and is now poised to wear the colours of Al Gharafa.
